4PAW

Unlock the full potential of having four paws! With the 4PAW base, you can gallop on all fours and still reach the top shelf!

The 4PAW takes inspiration from many sources in which a semi feral character is able to run on all fours and yet still stand and walk like a human.

This avatar is a combination of many techniques found in my other projects, carefully integrated into a single avatar.

4PAW - Biped? Quadruped? BOTH!

Multiple Custom Locomotion Systems | 8 Poses | 70 Customizable Blendshapes | 6 Different Horns | 150+ Menu Options | Full Body Tracking | Face Tracking | Only 27 Synced Parameters

FINALLY a fully featured feral has made it into VRChat! The 4PAW base has been built completely from the ground up with special emphasis on Full Body to allow for the most comfortable quadruped experience possible! Walk, Trot, Gallop, or Sprint with the custom locomotion systems included in this base!

But how are you going to play pool (billiards) with all four legs on the ground? Let's lift up that spine a bit, mix in some IK, and introduce a full set of biped locomotion! There we go, now you can run the table! (And maybe pickup the Aqua Pack to become a REAL pool shark?)

Features:

  • Biped? Quadruped? BOTH! - Simply playspace up or down to change your mode. When running as a biped, you will automatically go into a quadruped run after a short delay. If you would rather always be a feral, scale the avatar all the way up and then use the VRChat scale to shrink down.

  • Scale the Avatar but NOT Yourself - Yes! You can make the avatar bigger without making yourself bigger! This was specifically added to allow you to go into quadruped mode without having to use playspace mover (Scale the avatar really big, then scale yourself down in the VRChat menu). This could also be used to generally make yourself bigger if you want.

  • Full Body Tracking - Choose between many different options and offsets. Are your arms too long? Maybe your legs aren't quite the right length. You can adjust it all in game! Want to control all four legs with your legs, there's a toggle for that. When using full body, we try to keep you comfortably in control of your legs at all times.

  • Humanoid Offsets - There are MANY adjustments to get your hands matching up just right. You have full control over the offset between your hands and your pawbs. If you don't like the automatic hand offset when you reach too far, you can lock your hands to your hands with a toggle.

  • Custom Locomotions! - This base includes 35 custom locomotion animations to properly handle both quadruped and biped locomotion. The system also automatically swaps between modes depending on how fast you're moving. (Ferals can move much faster than bipeds!) You can even hop like a kangaroo or stumble around as a biped if you want!

  • 8 Poses - Sit, Lay, Lay Sideways, Lay on Back, Sploot, Float, Sit Silly, or Sleep, You pick! All of these will appropriately handle your movements and accomodate for Full Body where possible.

  • Idles and Gestures - Ear Flicks, Tail Movements, Subtle Expression Shifts, Close your fists to control the eyes or tongue.

  • Fully Customizable Gesture System - Maybe you want the smile to be a peace sign instead of a finger point? This avatar includes a completely modular gesture system that allows you to choose which hand or gesture activates any of the expressions. Or if you don't like a specific gesture, rather than turning all of them off, just turn off that specific one.

  • 3rd Person Camera - Desktop users rejoice! We haven't forgotten about you! Activate the 3rd person camera for a much better experience in desktop mode.

  • Direct Control Mode - When in Full Body, we found that it's often nice to have a mode where the arms, legs, and hips follow your movements directly. This mode will allow you to lean back in a chair and relax. If the "Auto FBT Poses" is active, this mode will automatically activate when you lean back far enough. You can also control the offsets of your hips while in this mode to get a better fit for your body.

  • Face Tracking - This avatar includes a full set of Unified Expressions. We even took it one step further and automatically animated the Ears and Tail based on your movements!

  • Boop and Head Pat - It would be a cryin' shame to not include these. The head pat closes the eyes, the boop closes the eyes and sticks your tongue out. You can even boop them back by pushing away physbones with your nose!

  • MMD Compatibility - Yep, sing and dance to your heat's content. Not only do we have the necessary blendshapes, we've also included 3 different types of MMD modes, "Direct Control" "Local Offsets" and "Automatic Steps"

  • Puppets - Just like on most avatars, feel free to puppet the Tail, Ears, Tongue, Toes, or Face Expressions.

  • Seats - Sit in chairs just like a human! You can even choose what pose to go into when you sit.

  • 1st Person Snoot - For a more immersive experience, you can choose to see your own muzzle at the bottom of your screen. It's fully adjustable for the perfect fit.

  • Full Modular Setup with VRCFury - Literally just drag and drop features you want into the avatar to enable or disable features, systems, or accessories. Everything will automatically connect with VRCFury.

  • Customize your Look - Get the perfect look with over 70 Customizable Blendshapes and even sliders for things like "Eye Width" and "Spine Length"

  • Passengers - Become a taxi with this advanced seat system! This seat is forced upright and smoothed to your movements to prevent motion sickness. You can even control the height, rotation, and amount of smoothing.

  • Ghost Hands - When you aren't directly controlling your hands, a set of toggleable ghost hands will appear to give you an indiciation of where your hands are.

  • Flight System - Simply run forwards, look up, and jump to take off into the air! You can also dash or finely control your movements while flying. This system will automatically disable itself when you land and look down.

  • Quest Compatible - We already have all the locomotion systems ready to go, so we can remove the IK and upload to quest! We've also included an optimized version of the body with 19,640 triangles (polygons) to fit within the quest limits.

Aahhhgg Too Many Hoomans!

So how does it work??? Alright! Let's do this!

Despite having fewer limbs, I quickly found the 4PAW to be even MORE complex than my previous release of the AvaTAUR. It's more of a combination of the AvianTAUR and the AvaTAUR, let me explain.

Just like all of my other products, I am using a set of whitelisted scripts from Root Motion's Final IK system. This allows me to generate automatic steps and solve how non humanoid arms and legs should move. On the AvaTAUR, I was able to directly link the front legs with the humanoid legs, but that definitely wasn't going to work here. Instead I needed to do something similar to how the legs on the AvianTAUR work. As such, I made a system using the new VRChat local constraints to follow my real legs, but with a significant offset. I then use IK to link the visible legs to these. Unfortunately the humanoid legs are not the same length as the character's legs, this is why you'll find "Leg Length" and "Leg Offset" sliders in the menus. When not using full body tracking, I ignore your real legs and instead use automatic steps to make you walk around.

But this only solves for the hind legs, this avatar has FOUR legs! So I had to do this system again, but inverted for the front legs. This is accessible in the menus with the "Control All Legs" option. When not using this option, I default to automatic steps. However, it looks kinda strange for a quadruped to pick up BOTH front legs... so I intentionally lock one hand to the floor and let you control the other.

When actually walking, I ignore all of these controls and use a set of locomotion animations that I created specifically for this base. Due to being both a biped and a quadruped, I needed a full set of humanoid locomotions, as well as a set of feral locomotions! (It was a LOT to animate!) While making the animations, I found some variants I really liked, such as the Kangaroo Hop, so I added those as toggles.

"I have long legs, and little arms. I'm just not sure how well this plan was thought through."

So the final hurdle was something new I needed to figure out. This avatar is proportioned completely different from a standard human. Specifically, when waving your arms around, it's very easy to force the arms completely straight. So I made a set of local constraints for the arms as well. These local arms can be scaled or offset as much as I want from the originals and then IK is used to attach the visible arms, but when should I swap between directly controlled and locally controlled? I added ANOTHER set of invisible arms which are always trying to reach your real hands. This set has a contact to detect when it's close enough to your real hands and automatically swap control. (This system can be disabled in the menus with the "Lock Hands" toggle) To help show you what is happening, I have a set of ghost hands that appear whenever you are not directly controlling your own hands.

All in all, this avatar is much more complex than anything else I've made so far, but by using many optimization tricks I've learned, it actually performs better than the AvaTAUR! <3
